This is my earliest recollection of wanting to draw. I use to watch my grandfather draw. I may have been 6 or so and at that age it Seemed like magic. My Granpa Lucyan had these drawings around the house. Every time I went there I had to see them. I was always dragging those things out! Knowing he owned that talent made me pursue art. That's how I got hooked. I began to try it myself and was encouraged by my parents. I also remember always having a ball of clay in my hands. Shaping faces and bodies. Some of the earliest popular artists I recall were Frazetta and Wrightson's Frankenstein art. I studied commercial art for a year at the University of Southern Illinois. My instructor informed me at my first semester portfolio review. " You're getting away with murder. Your only salvation is life drawing!" After that I tried animation. I spent 3 years at Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and Animation. I studied animation under the instruction of Milt Neil, Famous for Disney's Three Cabillaro's and the cherub's in Fantasia. As well as various Donald Duck toons. I was also inspired to pen and ink from the first year instruction of Al Williamson. After Graduation from Kubert, I spent 8 months searching for work in the feature animation studios of Los Angeles. I had Visited Cal Arts 8 years prior, and wanted to return to the L.A. area after my studies. I was offered a position at Sierra On-line. A computer game company several hours north in Oakhurst near Yosemite California. That's How I got into The Game Industry! Creating art for Computer Games has been a tremendous creative outlet. With everything I've studied, The game industry allows me to put all of the things I enjoy doing into one format. I've gotten to know all the ins and outs of game art development using multiple platforms like PC, Nintendo, playstation, Xbox and MMORPG. What type of games to I like? I need to stay busy, So based on that it's reflected in the type of games I like to play. That would be fast pace run around and shoot em up kinda stuff! |
