A few thoughts about asanas are important to keep in mind.
This is not about accomplishment. Since we are all different in our bodies,
minds and spirits, so too will we be different in an asana (yoga position).
One will get just as much from the practice as the others even though they
would appear to be doing the asana differently, if we were to look. Try
not to! Yoga is about looking inward, focusing the mind and relaxing into
the asana. Part of the practice is to overcome the desire to "do it
right" or to emulate another person who may have
exceptional flexibility. Work on this.
Our bodies are great teachers. Listen to what yours is
telling you. Go easy. Go slowly.
Pain should never be a part of Yoga. If you experience any pain stop what
you are doing immediately. Your teacher (the human one) will be able to
help you with the asana so that it is pain free.
